A huge catalogue needs a store that keeps up.

4D Controls sells surplus and used automation parts (PLCs, drives, robot arms) to industry and mining, shipping from Australia and the US. With 28,000+ parts, they needed a store that stays quick, is easy for the team to update, and does a few things an off-the-shelf theme can't.

What I built

I designed and built the whole store: a fully custom theme, built from scratch. No page builder.

  1. Shop page with filters for manufacturer, category and condition, and a grid of in-stock PLC processors
    01

    Custom theme

Built on ACF flexible content blocks instead of a page builder. It keeps the site lightweight, and the team can still edit their own pages.

  2. Product options: condition, series, stock and delivery dates for Australia and the US, and price
    02

    Condition selector

Each part can come in several conditions, from surplus sealed to used, plus series. Buyers pick the one they want and see stock and delivery dates for both warehouses.

  3. Shipping estimate by state, below the price and Add to Cart
    03

    Shipping estimator

A custom plugin that estimates shipping by state on the product page, before buyers reach the checkout.

Also built
  • A quote request for out-of-stock parts, so a missing part still turns into an enquiry

The project: 28,000 parts, one fast custom store.
